You are invited to dance who you are, as a woman or as a man, in order to shape and shift your inconsistencies, your similarities, your fears, loves and desires. With the Wave® as our vehicle and using the power of the witness we will see the tenderness, the rawness and surprises in the dances of both genders. We will explore through movement; initiating contact and setting clear boundaries, honouring our Yes and No, finding and celebrating our dance of integrity.
Working with and without music, Gender Rhythms offers the opportunity to enquire into the many differences we have with women and men, where we show up and where we hide – from ourselves and each other. From honesty and authenticity, love and respect are born.

This is a workshop that I love to teach. It began well over 15 years ago. I was running workshops for women and some of the men who danced with me said “What about us?” Fair enough, I thought and began opening myself to what a workshop for men and women together would look like.
As with many workshops, it can be hard to plan as the ratio of men/women, the stories, openness and hurts that people bring with them - and where I am on my own journey - all inform and affect what occurs.
Of course, we are dancing in the space with different genders all the time, with varying degrees of awareness. Gender Rhythms gives permission to notice, observe and enquire a little deeper into the impulses that we follow or ignore; inside our selves and in our dances with others. Who do we dance with, when and why? It can be so subtle - the clothes someone is wearing, whether or not we find them attractive and if that scares or excites us, if they shave parts of their body and if we approve or disapprove of that, the way someone laughs, scowls or speaks. And that’s just the external! Our own self-judgments and criticisms are frequently projected onto others and cloud the richness of dancing interactions that could be available for us to have. Let’s puff these honest (often hidden) responses up a bit, seduce them out of the closet and give them life in the space - so much more fun!
What do I bring to this work? 18 years of being a mum to both a son and a daughter; Over 20 years of spending time in women’s groups, both as a participant and a facilitator and in consciousness groups with men and women including Zegg Forums; 20 years of being in a committed relationship with my partner that has recently ended - and all the life experience that comes with that, including a devotion to maintaining Love whilst separating. Oh, and of course 16 years as a practicing 5Rhythms teacher with 4 years of teaching Heartbeat.
My wish and prayer? That the work I offer makes a tangible difference to deepening the presence of Forgiveness, Respect and Love whilst dancing to fantastic music and having a great time.
:-)
