October 2024 ~ Full Moon
“The opposite of love is not rage. The opposite of love is indifference. Love engages all our emotions: Joy is the gift of love. Grief is the price of love. Anger is the force that protects that which is loved. We cannot access the depth of loving ourselves or others without our rage.”
Twice this year I have found myself in situations where I have been asked to explore the aspect of me that can cause harm, that perpetrates, or knows hate.
The first was in a module of my Constellation Training in May; we were working with the theme of Radical Inclusivity.
The second was on Saturday when I was in Synagogue in North London, observing Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of At-one-ment.
“Yom Kippur is not only about our capacity for love. It is also about our hatred, and rage and aggression - and what we do with it, personally and collectively. It is the problem of our age - hatred and its ramifications - the defining problem of our times. To say that our very lives depend upon finding ways of thinking about our hatred is not an exaggeration. Our planet itself is loved and treasured – a source of wonder and delight; and it is hated and abused, plundered and laid waste to. Will our love or hate have the final say?”
I imagine that every day you are faced with an opportunity to choose love rather than hate.
These are the small moments that build and change the world.
With the rampant hate and heartbreaking loss of lives in the Middle East, and beyond, I will keep doing my utmost to turn within, to grieve and rage, and day after day open to joy and love.
Let's dance that world, together.
